چکیده

Little [12] showed that, in a certain sense, the only minimal non-Pfaffian bipartite matching covered graph is the brace K3,3. Using a stronger notion of minimality than the one used by Little, we show that every minimal nonPfaffian brick G contains two disjoint odd cycles C1 and C2 such that the subgraph G − V (C1 ∪ C2) has a perfect matching. This implies that the only minimal non-Pfaffian solid matching covered graph is the braceK3,3. (A matching covered graph G is solid if, for any two disjoint odd cycles C1 and C2 of G, the subgraph G − V (C1 ∪ C2) has no perfect matching. Solid matching covered graphs constitute a natural generalization of the class of bipartite graphs, see [5].)

Hyperpfaffians in Algebraic Combinatorics

The pfaffian is a classical tool which can be regarded as a generalization of the determinant. The hyperpfaffian, which was introduced by Barvinok in [3], generalizes the pfaffian to higher dimension. This was further developed by Luque and Thibon in [15] and Abdesselam in [1]. There are several non-equivalent definitions for the hyperpfaffian, which are discussed in the introduction of this th...

A survey of Pfaffian orientations of graphs

An orientation of a graph G is Pfaffian if every even cycle C such that G\V (C) has a perfect matching has an odd number of edges directed in either direction of the cycle. The significance of Pfaffian orientations is that if a graph has one, then the number of perfect matchings (a.k.a. the dimer problem) can be computed in polynomial time. The question of which bipartite graphs have Pfaffian o...

Pfaffian labelings and signs of edge colorings

We relate signs of edge-colorings (as in classical Penrose’s result) with “Pfaffian labelings”, a generalization of Pfaffian orientations, whereby edges are labeled by elements of an Abelian group with an element of order two. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Goddyn that all k-edge-colorings of a k-regular Pfaffian graph G have the same sign. We characterize graphs that admit a Pfaffian ...
